Mine Ruins1244 viewsA rare glimpse of the historic Mascot Mine at Hedley. These spectacular mining ruins sit on a narrow mountaintop ledge some 5,000 feet above the Similkameen Valley. Once one of the richest gold claims in the world, the Mascot fraction produced some 10 tons of gold in a little more than 20 years of operation. These old buildings are now being painstakingly restored to their original condition. Sadly yet understandably, the Mascot Mine is off limits to visitors.

Ruins of the Hedley Dam1183 viewsRuins of the power dam at Hedley. Built in 1914-1915, this dam supported a powerhouse with twin turbines to power the Hedley Gold Mining Company's extraction facilities. Badly damaged in the winter of 1935, the dam was abandoned in favour of the more reliable West Kootenay power lines that now ran through the valley.

Mountain Goat in the Ruins1089 viewsA mountain goat surveys the reconstructed Macot Mine, high on a mountain ledge above the Town of Hedley. The historic Mascot Mine, once one of the richest gold mines in North America, is being rebuilt into a tourist attraction for history buffs who have no fear of heights. Perched 5,000 feet above the valley floor and 7,000 feet above sea level, it is possibly the most dramatic mining site in the World.
